My career goal is to become a optometrist or veterinarian (I am still deciding between these two career) and would need to have knowledge skills of biological science, mathematics, science, critical thinking, speaking, reading and writing. It will assist in solving current societal problem by as a person eyes tend to age, the eye is less able to focus on objects just a short distance away. Optometrists provide eye care to these people, treat vision problems and eye diseases. They use instruments, eye drops, and various observation to determine the health of the patients' eyes. They create a treatment plan, explain those treatment plans to patients and answer their questions. It will teach them about proper lighting, care of glasses and contact lenses, and general eye safety and health.
Throughout this class, I have learned about myself of my personality and what careers is best for me based on it. I learn that I value order and cherish the traditions of home, family and country . When there is a task to complete, I can be depended upon. I try my best to get it done and keep track of the time so that I won't spend too much time on it. I am very organized, including my desk, work space and personal environment, and I know where the items are located. Time management is very important to me and been/am using this skill in my daily life. The further on I go with my studies, the more I can be independent. I always balance myself between work, rest and play and set a time limit of each of them on how many hours should I spend time into these three areas. Team building is also important in our everyday life, especially when working at a job. Interactive exercises, team assessments, and group discussions helps develop a greater sense of cooperation and trust between team members. By doing these three activities, communication and collaboration skills within and between groups of people working together are improved. Learning to work together and act as a team may be enjoyable and a lot of fun. I have learned a lot about the many different types of careers and what is required to fulfill those careers as well as how to write a cover letter, resume, and be prepared before an actual interview.

Interview Strategy
To prepare for the interview I would go to the internet and research the company so that I can gain the information of the company by spending time on the company entire website to know whats there and what is required to work in the company. Then, I would google the company and google the person or people that I'm gonna interview with so that I can see recent articles about them or about the company such as issues coming up, big things they would expect me to know about in the interview that might have been covered in the press. I would go through a mock interview in the college campus, seek help/ advice from a career counselor, or practice my interview skills in front of anyone I know who has great interview skills as well as they are currently working in a company (friends, parents, relatives). I would wear a white long-sleeved shirt with a blue suit or a suit with a jacket, conservative heels (not too high heels), clean my fingernails and cut them if they are too long, style my hair for a professional look, use less makeup, no bare midriffs, no short skirts, and nothing skin tight. I would have to look professional and dress professionally, watch my language, and come prepared to explain how the position I'm interested in fits into the organization's goals and objectives.
I would answer the following interview questions by:
1)Name your three biggest strengths and weaknesses
Strengths: highlighting my strengths which are most in line with the company and position. If the company values leadership, then I would cite my leadership experience. If I'm in a technical field, I would state something along the lines of adapting to new technologies quickly. Most importantly, I can provide examples to show that what I mentioned is a strength. If I'm in sales and list persuasion skills as a strength, I can tell stories about getting touch customers to buy my goods.
Weaknesses: find something that won't hurt me as a candidate for the job and something I'm working to improve. I can state that I'm weak in a skill that's not required for the job but would benefit for the company. I can show that that I'm taking action towards improving it such as doing research or taking a course and cite examples of what I'm doing to improve. I would understand the question, be prepared, avoid the most common mistake, be clear and concise, immediately follow with good news, continue to be clear and concise, stop and wait, provide more weaknesses, follow-up with a strength, and analyze regularly. An example would be “ I sometimes over analyze my work products which can cause me to fall behind in other tasks. To avoid that, I set aside a specific amount of time for review. When that time is up, I move to the next task on my list of priorities.”
2)We have 24 candidates, why should we choose you?
I can give concrete examples of why my skills and accomplishments make me the best candidate for the job. I can take a few moments to compare the job description with my abilities, as well as mentioning my accomplishments in my other positions. I will be positive and state my interest in the company and the position. Make a short list of all my advantages and create a paragraph that would point out the positive aspects that I would bring to the new job position, make similarity/similarities of this job profile you are aiming for at the company to the previous job profile I had, draw the interviewer’s attention to my key skills and strengths, make my professional ambitions clear, and making sure that my answers don't focus too much about myself.

Eureka Assignment
I would like to pursue an optometrist. I just learned that an optometrist is different than an optician and an Ophthalmologist. These three occupations are often confused for they play similar roles but also perform different activities. An optometrist examines the patients eye to detect vision problems, disease and other abnormal conditions. They most likely prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses and may also prescribe/use drugs to treat eye disorders. An optometrist goes through three processes to determine vision impairments, eye diseases, vision malfunctions, and other abnormalities: pre-testing station, the exam room, and the dispensary. First, they use the Auto-Refractor / Keratometer machine which makes some calculations to determine an approximation of patients prescription. Second, they would ask the patient to do various tests such as an entrance test, contact lens evaluation (only for people who wears contact lens), refraction test, and eye health evaluation/dilation. After going through all these tests, the optometrist is going to tell the patient what is good, what is bad, what he/she will need to improve, or is just fine (which means the vision is good and it stayed the same). Finally, they let the patient choose his/her frames for purchasing new eye glasses and new lens. The main purpose of this career is to help people protect and improve their eye vision as best as they can.
The abilities or skills required would be able to picture objects from sketches and drawing, learn and understand procedures, using words as well as numerical reasoning to communicate in person and on paper, have good eyesight, good coordination of hands and fingers, make decisions using data and facts and doing precise work with tools, instruments, or equipment. I would need knowledge of life sciences( which is the major for this career), be able to work with different types of people, and good analytical, communication, and clinical skills.
The courses that needs to be required for this occupation are mostly life sciences and optometry. Optometrists must complete a four year program in optometry. Some may require at least 2-4 years of experience. It also requires a bachelor's degree, including graduation from an optometry school, and must pass clinical state board examinations. The entry/low pay is about $6000, average pay is about $8000, top pay is $10000 & up so the salary is kinda low, but hopefully the salary can increase more.

Road Trip Nation
Watching Grant Golliher interview, he left his hometown, which is in Colorado at a farm, on a mule to seek adventure. He was easily influenced by his peers that led to doing things that are wrong, but just couldn't say no because he didn't want to be rejected. He had a tough childhood that his mother would be mentally ill and going through several depressions and as a result he himself would go through those same issues as well until he realized that we gonna be the one who says “I'm gonna face this thing and it's gonna stop in my generation”. What makes him to keep going forward is the dream of the adventure by making a living of what he enjoys doing which is moving cows around in the country, being a cowboy and training horses. He has learned lots of things about himself when working with horses such as that we have things that we need to work on personally and if we don't work on those personal work stuff then we'll never go forward in life. His passion is really training horses and then from years of training horses he found that he was training the horses but the truth is the horses were training him to be a better person. So the focus is gone from adventure to finding his passion which is horses and training horses and moved on it to people. Its people he wish running from that he ran away but really he was running for himself, he was running from his own problems.
I learned from this interview that our lives are always being challenged by our fears. Life is all about facing your fears. We are all afraid of something that says “I like to go there, but I'm afraid”. When you step out there, even though you're afraid, somethings gonna be there to hold you up and you'll be able to get through. You can't run from your own problems. You can go around and around but you can't get away from yourself. You have to face your fear (no matter how much it frightens you) as you process to overcome it later in the future. Most importantly is never never give up on your dreams.
His story has taught me to challenge myself to face my fear and while I do face it I can discover more about myself of who I really am. I can use what I learned if I don't know what to say or don't know the answer to a question and I just feel this pressure around me and it's just almost overwhelming, I need to just hang in there and it'll come. Eventually, the right words will come and that would be the answer. I can be afraid, but I also need to have faith.

youtube assignment
Since I am choosing the major life sciences or biological sciences, my two related careers are either veterinarian or a zoologist. Veterinarians treat or take care of sick and injured animals. They do perform surgery and give medicine to animals. Although most veterinarians treat small animals (dogs, cats, fish) there are others who treat large animals (sheep’s, cows, horses) and those who treat large animals has to drive to the destination for the animal's check-up. They check to see the animals status by taking blood tests or x-rays. They need to look carefully in the way how animals look, act, and smell for it tells them if the animal is sick, injured, or malfunction. Upon seeing the video, there is one veterinarian he did not
actually even considered to be one until he was in undergraduate school. As a young kid he was really fascinated with animals and surgery, but wasn't too interested in interacting/dealing with people, along with human medicine. Yet, as he got older, he takes all those things and started to realize that he can do surgery on animals and treat them for a living. He knew what he wants to do and where he wants to go which is veterinary medicine and veterinary school. Being an veterinarian requires a lot of dedication, time, and studying. In fact, to get into veterinary schools, it does require students to have good grades. The best part in this career is the rewards you get by making a difference for animals and families due to the fact that you’re changing a situation and solving it, making both the animal and the family happy. The worst part in this career, however, is the stress and sad situations. Dealing with the emotions that it is time for the animal to pass on is really hard and heartbreaking at the same time.
Zoologists study the behavior of animals in their natural surroundings or habitat. They mainly work in laboratories while conducting experiments on a certain animal. Based on the data and information they had gathered after observing the animal, they determine its health and well being. Other zoologists are working in zoos where they maintain and direct activities that an animal must properly go through. Watching the video, I learned animals have adapt on how to be successful in the environment they live in. Being an zoologist helps us understand the way animals survive in the wild and how important they are to the functioning of the ecosystem. This career can also discover about the animal kingdom.

micro skills
My Micro Skills results was very interesting to me because there were occupations that appealed to me while others I'm not really interested in. The reason why those occupations doesn't appeal to me is because I don't have the skills required in order to perform that career properly or those skills are my weaknesses. Also, the related majors/programs for those occupations are not my main focus right now, instead I am taking into a different route towards my goal.
One of the occupations of interest is an biologist. Since I love biology and its my favorite subject, I think this occupation suits me. Biologists study about the function, anatomy, development, and other basic principles of plants and animals life. They do research after they have gather enough information and then work in the laboratory to come to an conclusion of their studies. This career is mainly about life sciences and probably some mathematics/statistics skills. Anyone who is interested in science would be perfect or could even consider for this career. I know that I have to take and learn many of the life science courses in preparation on this type of field to be accomplished. That's why I think biology will most likely be my major and biology is considered a good major to take in future preparation for medical, dental, pharmacy, veterinary school, and medical technology programs.
The second occupation of interest is an animal trainer. Animal trainer teach animals to follow commands, compete in shows, perform for audiences. They also feed, exercise, and give extreme care to the animals they train. This career would be perfect for people who enjoys working with animals and loves interacting with them. I learned animal trainers work both outdoors and indoors, requires physical activities such as walking, running, stooping, and reaching, and make judgments about an animal's behavior. There are some risks/dangers involved such as being scratched, kicked, or bitten by animals. In order to be in this occupation, you need to have knowledge of the animal you are working with as part of the important skills required. People who are animal trainers today know the different ways of how the animal behaves through the study of animal biology along with animal psychology.
Overall, these two occupations mainly focus on the knowledge and skills in science. Like I said before, I love science and will maybe consider the two some time in the future.
true colors
After completing the true color assessment, my true color result was gold which I think best describes me. I wasn’t surprised that I was gold because most of the meaning of it is true. I do take responsibility of my work and try to fulfill my duties and obligations as soon as possible. When I do take responsibility, I always plan ahead of when I will do it and how long would it take me to finish. I time myself when I'm doing something because I need to figure out if I have time to do other important responsibilities to fulfill as well. I am very organized upon my work such as writing a to do list and checking off every item I finish. I am also loyal to my family and supporting them in any way I can. I try to make the right choice of any situation before I decide an answer because of my family. They have supported me and its my turn to support them in return.
I represent gold everyday in my life such as having good health. Another would be I am optimistic. I always hope success will come in all possible ways and should expect the best, or at least, a favorable outcome. Even if I don't get something that I want, there are other opportunities I can look forward to and from there I try to make the best of it. I always have the phrase “if at first you don't succeed, try try again” in my mind and I keep reminding myself of that phrase because it tells me to not give up on something that's important to me. However, there are times that this doesn't work out for me and I'd stop trying. So as a result, I just do what I do in my everyday life and wait until I get the opportunity to succeed again either in the present or future.
The third reason I represent gold is because I am wearing gold everyday. This promotes courage, willpower, and health. I have a gold earring and a gold necklace that I wear everyday of my life and I never took it off. My grandmother gave both to me when I was young as a memory of her and this symbolizes for me spiritual love and prosperity.
My two occupations of interest would be an optometrist or a veterinarian. Since I love science, I think my major would be science which best suits of being an optometrist and a veterinarian. To be in these two careers, I have to be really good in all the biological sciences (chemistry, biology, physics, anatomy) and that is what I'm trying to accomplish right now.
first day experience
My experiences are everybody in the class has a different set of goals and career that they would
like to explore more about. Some of them chose this career and lifestyles class because they want to
know what career they are best suited for, what it takes for them to gain that career, and other important
information about the career. There are various types of careers/jobs that people can chose from, but its
the skills, knowledge, and experience that the person has to determine if he/she is performs well or is
right for the career/job. When getting a job or having a job, it's all about time management and being
active throughout the day. Time management is an important aspect in a career/job and also in our
everyday lives. Some of the class are employed while others are not employed right now. Those who
are employed are working part-time or full-time.
What I would like to learn by taking this class is the many types of careers and which of those
careers am I best suited for. Following the steps to making a good career choice besides learning my
skills, interests, values, and personality. The benefits, advantages, disadvantages on each of the careers
and how it affects within our environment/surroundings.
What I would like to learn the most is the career of a doctor because that is what I want to be when I
grow up. I wanted to be a veterinarian but decided an eye doctor instead since veterinarian hospitals are
very low. I like to learn what kind of degree must be required and how many years will it take to earn
that degree. The kind of eye doctor I want to be would be just the eye examinations, not performing
any surgical procedures. I would like to know how much salary does an eye doctor earn per year as I
heard that this career is really easy and can earn a lot of money.
Overall, I like to learn of the many types of careers in the world today and how it is used both in the
industry and everyday life. How it can be achieved through the process of good career choice does take
time into our decision making. Each of the careers has a different role/procedure to carry out and I like
to observe them with my own eyes how he/she is portraying that career and how it affects their own
lifestyles. But, as I said before, I want to learn more about eye doctors such as the degree, how many
years earning that degree, what college/university would best suit into pursuing eye doctor, and salary.
