To prepare for the interview I would go to the internet and research the company so that I can gain the information of the company by spending time on the company entire website to know whats there and what is required to work in the company. Then, I would google the company and google the person or people that I'm gonna interview with so that I can see recent articles about them or about the company such as issues coming up, big things they would expect me to know about in the interview that might have been covered in the press. I would go through a mock interview in the college campus, seek help/ advice from a career counselor, or practice my interview skills in front of anyone I know who has great interview skills as well as they are currently working in a company (friends, parents, relatives). I would wear a white long-sleeved shirt with a blue suit or a suit with a jacket, conservative heels (not too high heels), clean my fingernails and cut them if they are too long, style my hair for a professional look, use less makeup, no bare midriffs, no short skirts, and nothing skin tight. I would have to look professional and dress professionally, watch my language, and come prepared to explain how the position I'm interested in fits into the organization's goals and objectives.
I would answer the following interview questions by:
1)Name your three biggest strengths and weaknesses
Strengths: highlighting my strengths which are most in line with the company and position. If the company values leadership, then I would cite my leadership experience. If I'm in a technical field, I would state something along the lines of adapting to new technologies quickly. Most importantly, I can provide examples to show that what I mentioned is a strength. If I'm in sales and list persuasion skills as a strength, I can tell stories about getting touch customers to buy my goods.
Weaknesses: find something that won't hurt me as a candidate for the job and something I'm working to improve. I can state that I'm weak in a skill that's not required for the job but would benefit for the company. I can show that that I'm taking action towards improving it such as doing research or taking a course and cite examples of what I'm doing to improve. I would understand the question, be prepared, avoid the most common mistake, be clear and concise, immediately follow with good news, continue to be clear and concise, stop and wait, provide more weaknesses, follow-up with a strength, and analyze regularly. An example would be “ I sometimes over analyze my work products which can cause me to fall behind in other tasks. To avoid that, I set aside a specific amount of time for review. When that time is up, I move to the next task on my list of priorities.”
2)We have 24 candidates, why should we choose you?
I can give concrete examples of why my skills and accomplishments make me the best candidate for the job. I can take a few moments to compare the job description with my abilities, as well as mentioning my accomplishments in my other positions. I will be positive and state my interest in the company and the position. Make a short list of all my advantages and create a paragraph that would point out the positive aspects that I would bring to the new job position, make similarity/similarities of this job profile you are aiming for at the company to the previous job profile I had, draw the interviewer’s attention to my key skills and strengths, make my professional ambitions clear, and making sure that my answers don't focus too much about myself.
